1970s Tohono O’Odham Basket

1970s small Tohono O’odham coiled basket with a rounded cylindrical form and bold geometric patterning. The basket is woven over a beargrass foundation, wrapped with yucca, with dark devil’s claw used to create the stepped design around the sides.
The compact form, tightly worked coils, and strong contrast between the natural yucca and dark devil’s claw give this small basket a particularly graphic appearance. The wrapped rim is intact and the basket shows wear consistent with age.
