1970s Tohono O’Odham Lidded Basket

1970s Tohono O’odham coiled basket with a fitted lid and knotted handle, woven over a beargrass foundation and wrapped with yucca. Stepped geometric bands in dark devil’s claw and red-brown run around the body, with a matching banded design spiraling across the lid.
The two-color design gives this lidded basket more visual depth than the typical black-and-natural pieces. Good overall condition with light age-related wear and surface residue on the base.
