Badger Kachina

Hand-carved from cottonwood root and hand painted, this Hopi Badger Medicine Man Kachina was created by Hopi artist Clarina Poleahla. Representing the Badger Kachina (Honan), the carving stands on a carved cottonwood base and displays traditional painted details. As Hopi Kachina carving is traditionally practiced by men, works by female carvers such as Clarina Poleahla are relatively uncommon and especially noteworthy.
