1980s Hopi Longhair Kachina Pin
Tribe: Hopi
Item #PP06942
1980s Hopi Sterling Silver Overlay Pin depicting a dancing Longhair Kachina. The figure is cut from the top layer of silver and set over an oxidized background, finely textured with hand-chiseled hatch marks, a hallmark of Hopi overlay work.
The Longhair Kachina (Angak'china) is associated with gentle rain and the growth of crops. His long, flowing hair is often described as representing falling rain, and Longhair Kachinas traditionally dance in groups in the plaza during the summer growing season.
