Morning Singer Kachina
Tribe: Hopi
Item #HK01966
Hand-Carved and Painted Hopi Morning Singer (Talavi) Kachina. Carved from cottonwood root and finished with painted detail, this honors the Kachina spirit who sings the dawn awake. Often appearing at the edge of the mesa during early morning ceremonies, Talavai holds a pine tree from the San Francisco peaks (Nuva'tukya'ovi) in Flagstaff, AZ, a sacred mountain for the Hopi. His role is to awaken the village and call the people to prayer.
