Shalako Taka Kachina
Tribe: Hopi
Item #HK02047
Hand-carved from cottonwood root, this Shalako Taka kachina stands beneath a towering painted tableta, with carved necklaces, a painted manta, and a tall body covered in layers of carved grey and black feathers. Shalako Taka and his female companion, Shalako Mana, represent rain and clouds; their tall tabletas suggest cloud formations, and the feathers flowing down their bodies evoke falling rain.
