1940s Tohono O’odham Handled Basket Tray
Item #C01994
1940s Tohono O’odham coiled basket tray woven over a beargrass foundation, wrapped with yucca, with dark devil’s claw used to create the abstract geometric design. The shallow circular form is finished with four integrated handles around the perimeter, giving the basket an unusual and distinctive profile.
The warm, aged surface and softened contrast of the natural materials give the basket strong historic character. The design radiates outward from the center in broad curving and geometric elements.
Condition: This vintage basket shows wear, and one handle is missing some of its yucca wrapping.
