Navajo Sandpainting Yei Weaving
Tribe: Navajo (Diné)
Item #WN02822
Navajo Yei Weaving with Five Yeis. Ruby White is known for her ornate depictions of the Yei, shown here in elaborate feathered headdresses and richly patterned dress with diamond and stepped designs, each figure holding feathered staffs. Set on a natural grey background, the design is framed by a cream border of arrow motifs and serrated red, rust, and black zigzag bands. The weaver’s initials, “RW,” are woven into the upper right corner. Yei weavings draw on imagery of the Yé’ii, a group of Holy People (Diyin Dineʼé) called upon in healing sandpainting ceremonies.
