Gold on Silver Petroglyph Buckle
Tribe: Zuni
Sterling silver belt buckle by Myron Panteah, Zuni/Navajo, featuring a free-hand cutout petroglyph design with 14K gold appliqué symbols, including rain drops, a migration swirl, and female water. The openwork silver scene includes additional animal, hand, figure, and other petroglyph-style motifs, with a textured surface and polished border adding contrast. Panteah (1966 - 2016) was known for cutting his designs freehand with a diamond-tipped saw, creating intricate compositions without a drawn template.
