1920s Tlingit Rattletop Basket with Lid
1920s Tlingit rattletop basket from Southeast Alaska, hand-twined from finely prepared spruce root and decorated with natural and dyed beargrass. The fitted lid features a raised woven knob. Rattletop baskets take their name from materials traditionally enclosed within the lid, producing a gentle sound when moved. The compact form and controlled twining reflect the highly refined basketry traditions of Tlingit weavers.
4” Diameter, 3.5” Depth
Condition: Good vintage condition with age-related wear, minor stitch loss and fraying, and some distortion along the lid edge. The basket body remains structurally sound.
