Item #ER12053

Navajo Sterling Silver French Hook Earrings set with genuine Buffalo Nickels in Serrated Bezels, showing the bison side of the coin. Each is finished with a hand-stamped sunburst drop flanked by Sterling Silver Beads. Hallmarked "Moe M" and "Sterling." Handcrafted by Navajo artist, Morris Muskett.

Coins have a long history in Navajo silverwork. Early silversmiths melted down American and Mexican coins as their source of silver, and coins later became a decorative element in their own right. The Buffalo Nickel, minted from 1913 to 1938 and designed by James Earle Fraser, remains a favorite for its bison design.
