1920s Fourth Phase Chief Blanket

Circa 1920s Navajo Fourth Phase Chief Blanket woven with handspun wool in natural wool colors and aniline-dyed red and blue. Broad red side panels frame bold black-and-white horizontal bands, while a narrow red central field carries a sequence of stepped bar motifs. The weaving has some fading, dye bleed, and scattered stains consistent with age.
