1900s Navajo Fourth Phase Chief Blanket handwoven with hand-carded, handspun, and dyed wool. The weaving incorporates Spider Woman Cross design elements, a motif associated with Spider Woman, an important figure in Navajo weaving tradition who is credited with teaching the Navajo people the art of weaving. The cross is commonly understood as a reference to Spider Woman and the origins of the weaving tradition. This historic weaving is in good overall condition with a few areas of professional repair, which have been considered in the price.
