Whipper Woman Kachina

Hand-Carved and Painted Whipper Katsina (Hu’ or Tungwup). The Whipper Kachina is a Hopi disciplinarian kachina who appears during the Powamu ceremony in connection with the initiation of children. Hu’ traditionally appears in pairs with Crow Mother (Angwusnasomtaqa), who oversees the initiation.

Old-style Kachinas are traditionally made for hanging, and this figure includes a loop on the back for wall display.
