1980s Miniature Tohono O’odham burden basket modeled after the traditional carrying baskets used for gathering and transporting food and materials. The tiny woven basket is fitted with a carrying strap and leather thongs terminating in small metal cone ornaments, carefully reproducing the details of a full-size burden basket on a miniature scale.
The basket body is worked in natural plant fibers with dark decorative elements around the rim and body. Its exceptionally small size and detailed construction make it a charming example of Tohono O’odham miniature basketry.
