Zuni Shalako Kachina

Hand-Carved and Painted Zuni Shalako (Sio Shalako) Kachina. Sio Shalako reflects Zuni influence within Hopi Kachina tradition and is recognized for its dramatic form and ceremonial presence. Like many Kachina figures, it relates broadly to the Hopi ceremonial cycle of prayers for rain, balance, renewal, and the well-being of the community.

“Old-style” Kachinas are traditionally made with a loop or string so they can be hung on a wall for display.
