1960s Hopi Overlay Bola Tie

Sterling Silver Bola Tie with Hopi Overlaid Designs of Weather Patterns, Water, Rain, and a Corn Stalk. These elements are central themes of Hopi culture, depicting the life-giving qualities of water and corn. The bola tie is finished with a figure-eight backing, sterling silver tips, and a black leather cord.

Handcrafted in the 1960s by Hopi silversmith, Gene Pooyouma. Pooyouma was the uncle of acclaimed artist, Preston Monongye and taught Preston how to silversmith. Pooyouma was active from the 1950s through the 1960s.
