1950s Tohono O’Odham Lidded Basket
Item #C01992
1950s Tohono O’odham coiled basket with a fitted lid, woven over a beargrass foundation and wrapped with yucca, with dark devil’s claw used to create the geometric patterning around the body and lid.
The basket has a compact cylindrical form with repeating stepped motifs around the sides and a bold spiral design across the lid. The natural golden tone of the yucca contrasts nicely with the darker devil’s claw, while the visible age and wear give the piece an appealing historic character.
This vintage basket has condition issues consistent with its age, including areas of missing and worn stitching, exposed foundation along portions of the lid and rim, and general surface wear.
