Corn Maiden Fetish

Zuni Corn Maiden carving by Vickie Quandelacy, hand-carved from a natural shell with flowing robes, geometric designs, and finely detailed corn imagery. The figure is accented with inlaid turquoise, coral, and jet and rises from the shell’s natural opening, which has been incorporated into the sculptural form.

Corn Maidens are associated with abundance, fertility, growth, and the sustaining gift of corn. Vickie Quandelacy is known for her graceful maiden figures and imaginative use of naturally shaped shells.
