Horned Priests and Starblower Collar
Tribe: Hopi
Sterling Silver Overlay Collar Necklace by renowned Hopi artist Victor Coochwytewa, featuring bold imagery of One-Horn and Two-Horn Priests holding planting sticks, flanked by celestial “Starblower” figures and stylized corn stalks. The collage of Starblowers, One-Horn & Two-Horn Priests and Corn, all in a single piece, could be viewed as a tribute to iconic symbols associated with Victor’s work. The combination is unique in his body of work. The Starblower figure was, of course, a hallmark to Victor’s designs. He frequently employed the Priests in his creations. He considered corn to be his “life’s work” (jewelry was his “hobby”). Crafted in the 1980s, this piece exemplifies Coochwytewa’s mastery of design and technical precision.
Part of the historic Kopavi Collection, this necklace has never been previously owned.
