1930s Zuni Rainbow Man Pin
Tribe: Zuni
1930s Zuni Rainbow Man sterling silver pin with inlaid Jet, Spiny Oyster Shell, Mother of Pearl Shell, and natural American Turquoise. The previous owner attributed the piece to Zuni artist Lambert Homer Sr., an accomplished lapidary known for his intricate mosaic inlay and Rainbow Man figures. Homer worked among a circle of prominent Zuni artists associated with trader C.G. Wallace, who supplied materials, commissioned work, and helped develop a wider market for Zuni jewelry during the early 20th century.
The Rainbow Man is an important Zuni figure associated with rain, fertility, agricultural abundance, and the life-giving blessings of the natural world.
