Hand-Coiled and Traditionally Fired Blackware Santa Clara Vase with a Carved Avanyu design. The Avanyu, or water serpent, is a powerful symbol in Pueblo and Southwestern art, representing water, rain, and the life-giving forces of nature. Often depicted with flowing curves and horns, it serves as a guardian of water and a reminder of nature’s balance and power. Made in the 1990s by Santa Clara potter, Millie Chavarria.
