Hand-carved and painted during the 1980s, this Zuni Hunchback Owl (Owiwi) Kachina represents one of the most recognizable figures in Zuni ceremonial tradition. The Owiwi is associated with wisdom, insight, and the protection of crops, reflecting the owl's important role in Pueblo agricultural life. Traditionally depicted with a hunchback and ceremonial implements, the Owiwi participates in dances that bring blessings for the growing season. This vintage carving is a fine example of Zuni craftsmanship and an excellent addition to any collection of Pueblo art.
