Sky Masawytewa

“I am Omaw’wungwu (Cloud Clan) from the village of Songoopavi in Second Mesa, Hopi. I was born on January 28, 2003. I live on the reservation where I learned the trade of silversmithing from my father, Sparks Masawytewa.

As many of us Hopi people can say, I grew up in an artistic family on both my paternal and maternal sides of my family. My father, along with his brothers Gary Masawytewa and Darren Masawytewa, have mastered the art of silversmithing, as well as carving. My mother’s brothers are also known Hopi silversmiths; Farron Nakyawaiwisa and Charlie Lewis. Along with my great grandmother Griselda Saufkie and her husband Lawrence Saufkie, all these individuals I have mentioned heavily inspire the pieces I create.”
