The New Lander mine, located in northern Nevada near the Lander Blue mine, is widely known for producing striking spiderweb material in shades of light green, white, yellow, and occasionally orange. Although it is often grouped with turquoise mines, New Lander is better known for producing variscite and chalcosiderite rather than true turquoise. Even so, it has become highly collectible because of its bold webbing and unusual color range.
New Lander material often shows a dramatic dark spiderweb matrix against a pale green or mint-colored background, giving it a look unlike almost any other American stone. Its distinctive appearance has made it popular with collectors and artists who appreciate unusual natural material, especially stones that stand apart from more familiar blue turquoise varieties.
