Zuni Mosaic Inlay and Painted Coyote Fetish

Zuni Stone Coyote Fetish with a Mosaic Inlay on one side and a Hand-Painted Design on the other. The inlaid side depicts a night landscape with a crescent moon, a star and mountains in Crushed Turquoise, Lapis, Spiny Oyster Shell, Abalone and other stones and shells. The painted side shows two Butterflies. Finished with Turquoise Eyes and signed on the base by both artists. Hand carved by Zuni artist, Lynn Jayne, with painting by her daughter, Kandis Quam.

In fetish carving, the coyote is often described as a trickster whose antics make it easier to see ourselves and laugh at our own mistakes.
