1890s Germantown
Tribe: Navajo (Diné)
Exceptional late 19th-century Navajo Germantown weaving featuring a bold serrated eye dazzler design in vivid red, black, and ivory. Woven entirely from commercially produced Germantown yarns, this textile exemplifies the striking graphic style that became popular in the 1880s and 1890s when Diné weavers began incorporating brightly dyed imported wool. The dynamic stepped diamond and chevron motifs create a powerful sense of movement and symmetry, framed by a strong black border. The yarns retain excellent color saturation, and the weave is tight and even, reflecting a highly skilled hand. A true period example with wonderful visual impact, ideal for display as a major wall piece.
