Navajo Storm Pattern Weaving
Tribe: Navajo (Diné)
Item #WN02823
Navajo Storm Pattern rug with ivory stepped lines connecting the center to the four corner panels, set on a deep red field. Serrated motifs in ivory, grey, and black fill the design, with water bug figures at each end, all framed by a serrated grey and black border and a solid black outer border.
The Storm Pattern is characterized by a central design connected to elements at the four corners and has long been associated with interpretations of the Diné homeland, the four sacred mountains, lightning, and water bug figures as a sign of rain.
