1915 Figured Yavapai Apache Basket
Tribe: Apache
Item #C01964
Circa 1915 Yavapai Apache basket woven on a three-rod foundation using willow and devil’s claw. The basket features a complex figured design arranged in concentric star patterns, with repeated deer figures and stylized Apache Crown Gaan dancer heads or masks incorporated throughout the composition.
The strong contrast between the light willow and dark devil’s claw emphasizes the geometric structure of the design and gives the figures a bold graphic quality. The shallow bowl form and broad diameter further highlight the intricate pictorial patterning.
