1950s Coin Squash Blossom Necklace
Tribe: Navajo (Dinรฉ)
Mid-century Navajo sterling silver squash blossom necklace featuring handmade coin-silver beads and blossoms crafted from Walking Liberty half dollar coins dated from the 1930s and 1940s. The strand is composed of hand-formed beads made from antique Mercury dimes, each individually shaped and strung to create a classic Navajo bead profile. These coins were struck in 90% silver. Suspended at the center is a traditional naja pendant with hand-stamped details and a rope bezel set with natural American turquoise displaying rich blue color and brown matrix. The necklace retains a beautiful natural patina that highlights the coin imagery and hand-worked surfaces throughout. A substantial and striking example of traditional Navajo silversmithing from the mid-20th century.
