Michele Laughing-Reeves

Michele Laughing-Reeves comes from a family of very notable Navajo weavers. Her mother, Mona Laughing, specializes in Crystal weaving. Her sister, Charlene Laughing, is a prolific weaver of Crystal, Blanket Revival, and Pictorial weavings. The work of Michele, Mona, and Charlene Laughing is sought after by collectors from all over the world. Many of their weavings include hand-dyed wool using natural vegetal dye sources.

Michele Laughing-Reeves began weaving in 1979. She has won many awards throughout her career, including multiple “Best in Class” ribbons and a “Best of Show” award from the New Mexico State Fair in 1996. Michele’s work has evolved over the years into a very contemporary style, pushing the boundaries on what can be created with wool and loom. Many of her works resemble paintings, with designs that have an extremely high level of difficulty for a textile weaver.

In addition to weaving, Michele has taught 8th grade Language Arts since 2005. She is married to Sunshine Reeves, a world-famous Navajo silversmith, and they live together in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Michele is a delight to work with and Garland’s is proud to carry her artwork.
