Tribe: Navajo (Diné)
Item #WA01055
1950s Navajo Shiprock Yei Weaving Handwoven from Handspun Wool with Multicolored Aniline Dyes on an Ivory Field. Five Yei figures, adorned with colorful feathers and ceremonial regalia, stand in a row with corn plants between them and a tall central cornstalk rising from a stepped base. The Rainbow Guardian frames the scene along the left side and bottom in red and green. Yei figures represent Navajo healing spirits, and the bright colors on a light background are characteristic of weavings from the Shiprock area of northwestern New Mexico.
