Wichita Kingman Turquoise and Gold Bear Pendant
Tribe: Wichita
Item #PP07113
Sterling Silver Pendant with 14K and 18K Gold Appliqué, set with a freeform Natural Kingman Turquoise from Arizona in a Serrated Gold Bezel. The turquoise shows bright blue nuggets in a warm golden-orange spiderweb matrix. The polished gold overlay is cut away to reveal a heartline bear, spirals and stepped designs set against finely chiseled silver. The lower panel has a hammered gold texture, and the whole pendant is framed by a filed silver border. The gold bail is stamped with diamond designs. Hallmarked “DH,” “18K,” “14K” and “Sterling.” Handcrafted by Wichita artist, Dina Huntinghorse.
The bear appears in many Native traditions, where it is often associated with strength, protection and healing. The heartline, a line running from the mouth to the heart, is often described as representing the breath of life or the animal’s spirit.
