1930s Navajo Yei-be-chai Weaving
Tribe: Navajo (Diné)
Item #WA01063
1930s Navajo Yei-be-chai weaving in homespun wool, with six masked dancers on a tan field, framed by a stepped turquoise border. Yei-be-chai weavings depict dancers from the Night Chant ceremony, a design Navajo weavers began weaving in the early 1900s. The turquoise border shifts in shade where the weaver changed dye lots, and the ivory border shows a few faint spots.
