Jet Mountain Lion Fetish

Hand-carved jet mountain lion fetish by Herbert Halate, shaped in a low, elongated form with finely detailed surface carving that suggests the texture of the fur. A turquoise bundle is secured to the back with a sinew wrap, and turquoise inlaid eyes add a subtle point of color against the black stone. In Zuni tradition, the mountain lion represents strength, leadership, and protection, often associated with the guardian of the north.
