Butterfly and Flower Pendant
Tribe: Hopi
Sterling silver Hopi overlay pendant depicting a butterfly with outstretched wings surrounded by a blooming flower and cornstalk. The butterfly, delicately rendered with crosshatched wing patterns and stylized body details, symbolizes beauty, transformation, and fertility in Hopi culture. Some Hopi medicine men believe that flowers pollinated by butterflies carry enhanced potency. This piece reflects the arrival of a new season marked by growth, renewal, and abundance. It is hung on a 24” handmade Hopi sterling silver chain.
This pendant was made in the late 1970s by master Hopi silversmith, Victor Coochwytewa (1922 - 2011). This pendant is featured in Hopi Gold Hopi Silver by Zena Pearlstone (pg. 61), highlighting its significance. Part of the historic Kopavi Collection, this pendant has never been previously owned.
