1940s Fancy Saddle Blanket

1940s Navajo fancy double saddle blanket with a cream field, dark border, five pairs of central arrow motifs, and four corner blocks featuring Vallero stars in natural brown, dark brown, and reddish-brown wool. Vallero stars are a well-known motif in Navajo weaving, with roots tracing through Spanish influence after the symbol was brought to Spain by the Moors. The strong graphic layout and framed corner designs give this weaving more visual complexity than a standard saddle blanket, while the format reflects its original use as a Navajo saddle textile. Woven in wool with natural wool colors and a bold trading post-era design.
