Intricately Hand-Carved and Painted Broadface Whipper (Wuyak- Kuita) Holding Yucca Whips in Both Hands with Three Mudhead (Koyemsi) Kachinas all Holding Feathers. This stunning kachina is carved entirely from one piece of wood, except for the yucca whips and a few feathers. Another masterpiece kachina carving by D'Armon Kootswatewa.
The Broadface Whipper Kachina, or Wuyak-kuita, plays an important role in discipline and order during Hopi ceremonies, often guiding or correcting other Kachinas and dancers with his yucca whips. His bold appearance and actions are meant to teach respect, attentiveness, and adherence to tradition.
