Hand-Carved and Painted Hopi White Ogre (Wiharu) Kachina Holding a Saw and Wearing a Quiver with Bows. The White Ogre (Wiharu) Kachina is a powerful disciplinarian spirit who appears during the Powamuya (Bean Dance) to encourage good behavior and obedience, especially among children. Though fearsome in appearance, he plays a vital role in teaching moral lessons and promoting harmony within the community.

“Old-style” Kachinas are traditionally made with a loop or string so they can be hung on a wall for display.
