Racer Snake Kachina
Tribe: Hopi
Hand-Carved Old-Style Hopi Racer Snake Kachina.
The Racer Snake Kachina, called Lölöqangw or Lolokong in Hopi, embodies the agility and speed of the desert racer snake. Serving as a guardian during ceremonies like the Powamu (Bean Dance), he swiftly moves through the procession, symbolizing protection and vigilance. His dynamic presence is believed to aid in bringing rain and ensuring the well-being of the community. Old-style Kachinas are traditionally made with a loop or string so they can be hung on a wall for display.
