1990s Santa Clara Jar

1990s hand-coiled and traditionally fired Santa Clara blackware jar by Belen Tapia, featuring carved stepped cloud motifs encircling the body. The vessel has a classic jar form with a rounded body and a thick, rolled rim, finished in a deep black surface with a soft satin polish. The design is carved in low relief, with the stepped cloud forms creating a rhythmic, geometric pattern associated with rain and cloud imagery in Pueblo symbolism. The contrast between the polished surface and matte carved areas gives the piece a subtle dimensional quality while maintaining a clean, balanced presentation.
