Great Horned Owl Kachina

Hand-carved from cottonwood root and hand painted by Hopi artist Tawma Lalo, this Great Horned Owl (Mongwa) Kachina represents one of the respected owl spirits in Hopi tradition. Mongwa is associated with wisdom, keen observation, and the natural world.

Old-style Kachinas are traditionally made for hanging, and this carving includes a loop on the back for wall display.
