Second Phase Concho Buckle
Tribe: Navajo (Diné)
Antique Navajo Sterling Silver Belt Buckle in the style of a Second Phase Concho Belt. Likely made in the early 20th century (circa 1920s–1930s), this buckle was originally a Second Phase-style concho featuring scalloped edges, repousse work, and hand-stamped designs. Unlike First Phase conchos with open slots, Second Phase conchos typically had copper loops or slotted bars on the reverse to pass the leather strap behind the concho. The original copper loops were removed, and belt buckle hardware was added, making it a functional and historically significant accessory.
