Starblower in the Maze Buckle
Tribe: Hopi
Sterling Silver Western-Style Belt Buckle featuring a “Man in the Maze” Design with Three Starblower Figures by Hopi Silversmith Victor Coochwytewa, Early 1980s.
This exceptional buckle centers around the “Man in the Maze” design, a symbol representing life's journey, choice, and spiritual growth. Surrounding the maze are three Hopi “Starblower” figures—mythical beings who blow stars into the sky—depicted with dynamic motion and celestial motifs. The stepped and spiral elements in the corners reference migration patterns and traditional Hopi design language.
Victor Coochwytewa (1922–2011), a master Hopi silversmith was known for his precise overlay technique and meaningful symbolic work. His hallmark, along with the Kopavi stamp, appear on the reverse.
Part of the historic Kopavi Collection, this buckle has never been previously owned.
