Broadface Whipper Kachina

Hand-Carved and Painted Hopi Broadface Whipper (Wuyak-Kuita) Kachina with Feathers and Holding Yucca Whips. The Broadface Whipper is a disciplinary Kachina who maintains order during ceremonies. He carries yucca whips and uses them symbolically to enforce rules and respect. His striking, broad-faced mask and commanding presence reinforce his authority. 

 “Old-style” Kachinas are traditionally made with a loop or string so they can be hung on a wall for display.
