1980s Tonohon O’odham Basket

1980s Tohono O’odham basket, traditionally hand-coiled from natural yucca and dark devil’s claw over a bundled beargrass foundation. Four geometric designs extend toward the rim against the light yucca field, while a dark zigzag wrapping completes the softly scalloped edge.

Tohono O’odham basketry draws upon natural materials gathered from the Sonoran Desert, with contrasting geometric designs inspired by the landscape, plants, and animals of the region.
