Angel Wings Pictorial
Tribe: Navajo (Diné)
Handwoven by Navajo artist Michele Laughing-Reeves, this is a vibrant pictorial weaving inspired by the colors and landscapes of the Southwest. The composition depicts distant mesas, a soaring bird, saguaro and prickly pear cacti, and an expansive desert sky, all woven with vegetal and aniline dyes. Adding a personal touch, the saguaro cactus and the outline of the mountain on the right were woven with homespun wool Michele brought back from Ireland. A beautiful example of contemporary Navajo weaving, this piece blends traditional craftsmanship with a distinctive artistic vision. The weaving is titled "Angel Wings" for the type of prickly pear cactus depicted in the piece.
