Hopi Sunface Kachina, known as Tawa or Dawa, by Hopi artist Coolidge C. Roy III. Tawa represents the spirit of the Sun, honored by the Hopi as the creative force that brings warmth, light, and life to the world. The Sun also plays an essential role in establishing the agricultural and ceremonial calendar.

Hand-carved from cottonwood root with an elaborate circular feather headdress, detailed traditional clothing, and carved ceremonial objects. Mounted on a natural cottonwood base and signed by the artist.
