Parrots are represented in ancient rock art and hold a prominent place in Hopi and other Pueblo cultures. Parrots, especially Macaws and their feathers were a trade item with Central American cultures. They became symbols primarily associated with the south and summer. The clans of Hopi include a Parrot Clan.
