Flute Player Concho Belt
Tribe: Hopi
Sterling Silver Hopi Overlay Concho Belt with Flute Player Design by Beauford Dawahoya.
This exceptional concho belt by master Hopi silversmith Beauford Dawahoya is a museum-worthy example of traditional overlay work, combining spiritual symbolism with masterful design. The belt features 10 sterling silver conchos plus a matching buckle, each showcasing a trio of Hopi flute players beneath stylized rain clouds and beside a growing corn plant, powerful symbols of abundance and blessing in Hopi tradition. The flute player's song is believed to call for rain and fertility, encouraging the growth of crops and sustaining life.
Each concho is meticulously overlaid with deep oxidation to emphasize the design, and mounted on a custom hand-tooled black leather belt by Montana leathersmith Howard Knight. The reverse of the buckle is hallmarked with Beauford Dawahoya’s snow cloud signature (Snow Clan) and the Kopavi mark.
This rare, fully handmade belt is both a work of wearable art and a sacred visual narrative of growth, music, and rain.
Part of the historic Kopavi Collection, this concho belt has never been previously owned.
